apineveYeah, I know its not the most exciting thing..But, I thought some one in my shoes (budget cheapskate) may like to hear how the presonus digimax pres hold up against the venerable neve and api standards.

I recorded some lame stones wanna be acoustic guitar riff through each. I know i should of had them all setup for a single take but.. come on. I’m doing this late night after a couple beers. So its not scientific by any means but I think you can get a handle on these. The sounds are similar, actually I was pleased with how the presonus holds up. I still have my digimax fs and it tooootally is a necessity to me.

The api and neve have that snobby high end sound that is so freaking cool. I feel like i know what im doing when i record through those. But the presonus is a huge improvement over those digi 003 pres. I would seriously cry if i had only those to track through. So i can’t stress enough how important it is to make a 500 buck investment to dramatically improve your recordings.

Just now I’m thinking…. i should really A B the presonus against the digi 003 so you can see what I mean. I tried to use those pres in a pinch a couple weeks ago and could not believe how useless they are. so anyway here are the tracks…. oh btw.. its an api 512c a NEVE 81380 (ic chips not the 1073) and the digimax fs.

OK since this isn’t really a blind test, I’d recommend having a friend quiz you. the audio player is pretty responsive so its easy enough to bounce back and forth.

api

presonus

neve
