L.A. Based label Modus Vivendi have released my remix of Monta’s tune “disappointment.” Pick up their compilation Vol. 2 its reaalllyyy solid. There are some great tracks from their stable of artists and of course my remix. werd.

“Monta make an appearance with “Disappointment” as remixed by Solus. This one carries a bit more of an electro feel, but it’s analog ways and drifting guitar work keep it warm. It’s lack of brash vocals keeps it from becoming too styled after an 80s club cut…don’t start thinking 4/4 house beats though. This track does open the door for more of an 80s electro flavor to creep in.”

Here is a sample of what we tracked on saturday. Its obviously sloppy cause yours truly hasn’t had chops on the drums for years now. But maannn, they do sound fresh. Deep bottom, crisp highs and really tight all around.
If anyone is looking to track some drums contact these guys. The drums were nothing special. Just had the simple setup; AKG D112 on the kick, Shure Sm-57 on the batter side of the kick, Akg 414 overheads, and some other dynamic mics I cant remember on the toms.

New Solus EP coming soooon!!
The new EP is in its final stages and should be out in the next couple weeks. Its some funky Isht. Tentatively titled “The Void”
Also, there should be some Solus remixes and remixes of Solus coming out soon on an Upstairs Recordings Remixes album. Look for it. Or rather, check back here for it, listen to it, and maybe buy it too.
UAD-1 product review part 1
Universal audio’s UAD-1 is probably old news to a lot of folks , but I just picked one up and it’s pretty amazing. I own the waves and they sound great, but it took me awhile to appreciate their power and to understand what the heck i was doing. Software is not forgiving, it requires deliberate operation. I thought maybe I should leave we enough alone and not get involved in more software and a proprietary dsp.
Because of Universal audio’s rep and because I love my 1176’s sooo much I went out on a limb and tried the UAD. The only to describe it… sick!! The eqs have really really really smooth highs and nice round bottom. The 1176se sounds really really good too. This is basically my initial comments on this product but really it is worth every cent. I’ll delve into it more at a later date. I’m having too much fun mixing right now.
Definitely check the neve stuff and the roland space echo, oh and the plate 140. I own a space echo and this is pretty damn close. Actually the software version is more fun to use, with sync and automation.

Aaron Dugan - Jeff Arnal Session
Here is some shizzle you must check out. My good friend Aaron Dugan (of matisyahu fame ) was down in December to record some way cool, out there stuff with drummer Jeff Arnal. It is experimental avante garde jazz with some new sounds possible only today. Crazy. Check it for yourself. Their myspace pages should link you to their soundz.
