The new EP is an album
Looks like the new Solus EP has morphed into an album. It should be available at the turn of the year. If you write me a nice email I’ll send you some tidbits..
Did I mention ableton live is awesome, esp. on multitracked drums

Yeah, well it used to be that if I wanted to use my own drumtracks in my tunes it was a hassle. Firstly, I dont have a kit anymore, secondly I suck.. Well, at least the tracks would stick out like sore thumbs against quantized synth and sample tracks.
Live 6 has made it too easy. At rehearsal I just thru up a couple mics and jammed into my laptop. Later, at home I rewired the live set to logic or protools and got down to bizness. Just select all the tracks and whatever warps you make to one affect all the tracks. Insane..
Used to be I’d take a stereo track and stick it in recycle to tighten it up, limited by keygroups and a stereo channel. Now, anything is possible.
Bassline were another thing that used to get the recycle treatment. Again limited by the keygroups in your sampler you had to plan ahead if you wanted to recycle an entire performance. Now I just plug in my bass, hit record and play through, knowing I can warp the crap out of it and swing the entire track on the fly.
Now if i could just write something worth recording….
Solus live video
Its a full on media extravaganza!! We had reporters embedded with us for the duration of our tour. This is some video footage that survived the long journey back from allentown. That pack of wolves got most of our 16mm reels.
Solus live shots from Allentown
We made sure we played only Billy Joel tunes since we were in Allentown. Josh had a killer whistle solo, and thanks to Chris for these photos

Chuck Nicholson was on the Drums and Josh Meakim was on the guitar.

Solus, Mtume and the Cure Join foces in digital unity

Ok this is goofy but I had fun making this digital cluster f*ck. It’s Mtume’s classic track “juicy fruit” mixed with the Cure’s classic track “Lullaby” and synth noodlings by Solus. Love it, hate it, i dont care. It was made for a friends’ DJ set and now is offered here to my throngs of loyal fans.
Solus featured on Serve Chilled Volume 4

Those ambient scientists over at lounging sound radio will be featuring Solus tunes on their Served Chilled show. It airs every thursday at 7pm central time. To quote Jourdan, “its fully beatmatched and sure to please.” I cant wait to hear it. head on over to their site for all the details. http://www.loungingsound.com/
Solus Monta remix out on Modus Vivendi Music

L.A. Based label Modus Vivendi have released my remix of Monta’s tune “disappointment.” Pick up their compilation Vol. 2 its reaalllyyy solid. There are some great tracks from their stable of artists and of course my remix. werd.
also, check out modus vivendi’s website here
properlychilled.com review…..
“Monta make an appearance with “Disappointment” as remixed by Solus. This one carries a bit more of an electro feel, but it’s analog ways and drifting guitar work keep it warm. It’s lack of brash vocals keeps it from becoming too styled after an 80s club cut…don’t start thinking 4/4 house beats though. This track does open the door for more of an 80s electro flavor to creep in.”
tracking drums on the neotek
![]()
Here is a sample of what we tracked on saturday. Its obviously sloppy cause yours truly hasn’t had chops on the drums for years now. But maannn, they do sound fresh. Deep bottom, crisp highs and really tight all around.
If anyone is looking to track some drums contact these guys. The drums were nothing special. Just had the simple setup; AKG D112 on the kick, Shure Sm-57 on the batter side of the kick, Akg 414 overheads, and some other dynamic mics I cant remember on the toms.
