decem mix, the december 2008 podcast in January 2009

Dude, its been far too long since the last one. But winter is here, a fresh coat of snow on the ground and a snifter in hand. In fact its a month late already

Took a new approach to these podcasts. Rather than beatmatch everything beforehand I decided to do it the old school way and just mix and listen. Its way more gratifying.

One thing that struck me with this mix is how great music is in the modern age. So many people still beef over digital vs analog, pro tools and tape, old school new scool. But really, now with the tools on an off the shelf computer you can record great music. So people are. So much great music is coming out without the pr machine that used to provide it for us.

For instance, MGMT write great songs, they probably would have been a band without all this technology stuff, but man they use it well… there album pretty much just rules. But it helps they are fantastic songwriters.

enjoy the mix, happy holidays

Solus Rhizome is out now on Upstairs Recordings

The day has finally come. After too much delay, Rhizome is about to be absorbed into the public’s unconsciousness. Reemergence and convergence is to blame for the over saturated sound feeding back on decades old ideas.

What does this mean, who cares. enjoy. It is available for download NOW

The perils of digital recording – the pro tools 6085 error

This is just a post to help out people that may have had the same problem I suffered today. A good half hour setup at the reheasal spot for some drum tracking and my pro tools rig decides to give me the 6085 error.

No playback , no recording, to output into the headphones. The day is a wash and I tear down and leave. Now 2 hours  later, after searching the support forums to no avail… I remember.

the old fix all… DELETE THE Volume.dbb file in the Digidesign database folder !!!

I’m back in business.

Hopefully I can save someone an hour or two of bs if they stumble across this post.

Hear the Chandler Germanium Compressor in this video Demo

Check it, you can hear the unit working. First off, this isn’t the best material. The drumloop is already compressed, mixed, mastered, sampled, and resampled. However, It does illustrate some of the sound.

Bass, full mixes, guitar, etc will be up soon. This unit excels on any type of material. For now, delight in the crushing percussive pressure of this here demo.

The Chandler is an FET style compressor with germanium amp and crazy unique features such as wet / dry for parallel compression, and different diode for changing the knee and character of the compression. tweaked out.

But the real purpose of putting this up hear is to give you an idea of what it sounds like. I’m really not passing judgment and ideally I’ll have many other demos up for you to compare and contrast, my only obstacle is time.
