The Amen Break

April 14th, 2008

I’ve been guilty of using this break in the past. None of my tunes using it were ever put out though. I’m not much of a junglist.

Pod-tober-cast-fest….. Huh?

Balanced malts and hoppy beats to celebrate the harvest. This might be the most psychotic mix to date, from luke vibert to matata to Mapp & Derf. Speaking of Mapp & Derf…. That was my project with Gregg back in the day. It has been remastered and I’ll soon have it up on itunes…

The “Hub & Holmes” track is a preview to the new Solus tunes due out at the end of the year…

1. Holy Ghost - The Bar-Kays
2. I Wanna Do My Thing - Matata
3. Peace - Koom H
4. Hub & Holmes - Solus
5. All Night Long - Mary Jane Girls
6. Drop Your Weapon - Crazy P
7. Fat ALbert - Mapp & Derf
8. Acidisco - Luke Vibert
9. African Hustle - Mombasa
10. Rubber Lips - Young Holt Unlimited
11. Let It Go - Pimprekker
12. Darkroom - Second Sky

The new EP is an album

October 20th, 2007

Looks like the new Solus EP has morphed into an album. It should be available at the turn of the year. If you write me a nice email I’ll send you some tidbits..

Did I mention ableton live is awesome, esp. on multitracked drums

Yeah, well it used to be that if I wanted to use my own drumtracks in my tunes it was a hassle. Firstly, I dont have a kit anymore, secondly I suck.. Well, at least the tracks would stick out like sore thumbs against quantized synth and sample tracks.

Live 6 has made it too easy. At rehearsal I just thru up a couple mics and jammed into my laptop. Later, at home I rewired the live set to logic or protools and got down to bizness. Just select all the tracks and whatever warps you make to one affect all the tracks. Insane..

Used to be I’d take a stereo track and stick it in recycle to tighten it up, limited by keygroups and a stereo channel. Now, anything is possible.

Bassline were another thing that used to get the recycle treatment. Again limited by the keygroups in your sampler you had to plan ahead if you wanted to recycle an entire performance. Now I just plug in my bass, hit record and play through, knowing I can warp the crap out of it and swing the entire track on the fly.

Now if i could just write something worth recording….

Solus live video

June 30th, 2007

Its a full on media extravaganza!! We had reporters embedded with us for the duration of our tour. This is some video footage that survived the long journey back from allentown. That pack of wolves got most of our 16mm reels.
